Sponsored by the Kansas Wildscape Foundation

The Kansas Wildscape Foundation is offering up a unique, bucket-list hunt for greater prairie chickens in Northwest Kansas.  This 13th annual fundraising experience will be for 3-4 upland hunters September 23-25, 2022 at Stranger Valley Ranch’s 8,000+ acres north of Russell, courtesy of Angie and Warren Gfeller.  Mike Hayden, Kansas State University wildlife biology graduate, decorated Vietnam War Veteran, former 41st Kansas Governor, Kansas Department of Wildlife and Park’s Secretary, Assistant Director of the Department of the Interior’s U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and President of the American Sportfishing Association will host and hunt with the successful winning bidders.  Hayden is a virtual Google search on all things Kansas outdoors openly sharing interesting facts and figures throughout this truly amazing hunt-of-a-lifetime.  Bidding is open to both Kansas residents and non-residents.

Hunt participants will meet for a delicious dinner in Russell on Friday evening and then proceed to Stranger Valley Ranch where they’ll stay in a gorgeous bunkhouse on the ranch with all the amenities.  Homemade breakfast is served both Saturday and Sunday morning prior to each days’ chicken hunts.  On Saturday afternoon, hunters may tour the ranch on their own, fish in one of several ponds complete with hefty largemouth bass, or simply relax and enjoy the peace and quiet of Kansas’ own slice of heaven.   Saturday evening hunt participants will be dropped off in strategic locations for a mourning dove hunt.  The evening will be topped off with a home-cooked, multi-course meal and beverages fit for royalty.

All meals and beverages, lodging and hunt transportation during the hunt will be provided.  Hunters will be responsible for bringing firearms and shotgun shells, and a valid Kansas hunting license and prairie chicken permit.  Hunters will depart around noon on Sunday after the morning’s chicken hunt.

The Kansas Wildscape Foundation is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing outdoor opportunities for all Kansans.  Past projects and partnerships surrounding that focus include financing and construction of 70+ cabins in Kansas’ state parks and wildlife areas, Milford Wetlands restoration, Outdoor Kansas (OK) for Kids and WildLifer Challenge programs, The Great Kansas Fishing Derby, Wild About Kansas Photo Contest and several R3 (recruitment, retention, and reactivation) initiatives with the Kansas Department of Wildlife and Parks.

The auction will remain open until Friday, September 2, 2022, at 5 p.m. Winning bidder will be contacted by phone.  All money raised is used in Kansas on projects for Kansans.
